Clouderfall

I found where all the clouds have been hiding in Los Angeles! Yes, this past Saturday +Khris Griffis and I took a drove up to Malibu California, but this time we did not drive directly to the coast or any of the beaches. We started to adventure in the upper ridges of the Malibu Mountains. During that drive, we discovered some amazing new locations. This first location was simply breathtaking. These fast moving clouds just devour the canyon below in a matter of minutes. It's almost a cloud waterfall. It's just amazing to watch the sea of clouds flow at such a grand scale!

Clouder Morning

Malibu has been one of my main go to places lately. It's full of all types of landscapes, architecture and otherwise neat little treasures. One of the first places that I always check is a turn out on top of the Malibu Mountains that I like to call "Pumba." Pumba is high enough above Malibu that you are able to get above most systems that roll in from the coast. In past I have always been up there from sunset to late in the evening, but this time +Khris Griffis and I camped it out for 12 hours. It allowed him ample time to timelapes the rolling clouds falling into the canyons then to be sucked back to sea. I captured this early the following morning. It was cold, I had to pee, and after sleeping in the car all night...I was a bit loopy. "Stay out of Malibu, deadbeat!"

Living Above the Clouds

While the rest of Southern California was doomed with overcast skies, some of us went above them to see something a bit dreamy. There is something super cool being on top of a bed of clouds. Enough that I dropped everything and made a beeline to the top of Mt. Wilson.

Smokey Sunset

The summer is fast approaching us here in California. What that means for us are increased temperatures and some really dry brush all over. So when I heard that we has a pretty large fire in Southern California, I knew it was going to make for some cool skies. This was taken on top of a ridge in the Santa Monica Mountains near Malibu. It was the last couple of moments before the sun started to dip under the sitting smoke from the raging wildfire.

Holiday Snake

Very early Christmas morning, Carlos and I headed up to snake in Malibu to catch some stars and possibly some reindeer. Right before I left, I grabbed this pano. This was the first time watching the canyon below empty for hours at a time. It was very odd and creepy. Make sure to check out Carlos Gauna.

Clouder Canyon

For the past couple of months +Khris Griffis and I have been shamelessly stalking this shot. Earlier this summer we spontaneously discovered this spot in Malibu where the fog blows in from the Malibu coast line and into the canyons. When this happens, we coined it "Clouder Fall." I have captured some great moments of the fog rolling over the canyon ridge in the past during sunset, but have been dreaming of getting the fog pooled in the canyon under a blank set of stars. So after a ridiculously amount of failed trips and countless checking on weather sites, we finally got our day.

Clouder Pumba

Far above in the Santa Monica Mountains there is this road called Pluma Road. I offen refer to it as Pumba, simply because Pumba is way cooler then Pluma. What's so cool about Pumba is that when we get fog rolling in from the coast, it begins to pool and fall through the crest of each of the mountain ridges... For this, I have coined the term, Clouderfall. This happened again the other week, but this time we strayed away from the typical road viewing point and went up a bit further.
